A courageous Geat warrior that is willing to take on any obstacle in order to make a name for himself. He is noble and strong. He also knows how to be modest, but also have confidence. His only flaw is that he might value treasures more than he should. His ultimate downfall is having the dragon mortally wound him in the process of saving his beloved village.

A monster that has set in upon the kingdom of Heorot as a place to take out his anger. He feels animosity towards the men because they are creatures of God and he is not because he is a monster. He comes from an underwater cave with his overprotective mother, who also is killed in this poem.

King Hrothgar
The King of Heorot when Grendel decides to attack it. He is all to ready to fight, however he is just an old man. When Beowulf arrives, he learns that he is being repaid a debt that Beowulf's father owed to him.

The overprotective mother of the monster destroying Heorot. She decides to avenge the death of her son by coming into attack the kingdom. Beowulf tracks her down and makes sure she is killed by her own sword in her own home, and underwater cave in a lake.

Wiglaf
One of the warriors that travels with Beowulf to defeat the dragon destroying the village. He is the only one that stays by Beowulf's side, offering words of encouragement. He is a trustworthy and true warrior.

He questions Beowulf's claims and boasts about himself, and even goes so far as to make comments to Beowulf at dinner about it. He tells a story in which he has heard that Beowulf left a friend stranded in the ocean.

The wife of King Hrothgar, she is the Queen of the Spear-Danes. Her most important job is carrying around the ceremonial goblet of mead to all the warriors during the feast before battle.
